Program Overview
This master’s program is the result of a strategic international partnership between Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine (JXUCM), a prestigious higher education institution in China, and ESMTC, a pioneer in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) education in Portugal.
Objective:
To cultivate high-level TCM professionals in Portugal and Europe through a rigorous postgraduate curriculum, promoting academic excellence, cultural exchange, and clinical expertise.
Program Structure
Master Degree in Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina

Duration:
- Standard: 3 years (6 semesters)
- Maximum: 6 years
Training Model
- Hybrid Format: Combination of face-to-face and online learning.
- Mandatory Study Phases in JXUCM, Jiangxi:
- Registration and coursework in the 1st semester (1 month)
- Thesis proposal in the 3rd semester (1 month)
- Thesis defense in the 6th semester (1 month)
- According to the students will, additional practical sessions in China may be scheduled to ensure quality training.

Graduates who:

Note: As far as possible, these training units will be adapted according to the themes and research methodologies of the Master’s students.

Research conditions
- The theme and general lines of the research will be decided together with the JXUCM supervisor in the third semester.
- The research will be carried out in Portugal, with the support and guidance of the ESMTC team.
- Support from ESMTC for the publication of the Articles.
- Discussion and final presentation of the research results at JXUCM, at the end of the last semester.
Admissions
- Selection Process: Based on interviews and curriculum analyses by ESMTC and JXUCM.
- Annual Students Intake: Defined by JXUCM. ESMTC assists in recruitment and documentation.
Academic Collaboration
- Joint development of an English-based curriculum.

- Teaching members from both institutions contribute to supervision and research.
Tuition & Financial Details
Students admitted to the Master’s program at Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine (JXUCM) are responsible for the following expenses:
- Tuition fees (without scholarship): €5,114 per academic year (approximately €432 per month)
- Travel and insurance: International flights, health and travel insurance are to be arranged and covered by the student
- Living and personal expenses in China: Including accommodation, food, transportation, materials, and other daily costs
Scholarship Opportunity – Tuition Fee Waiver
To promote academic mobility and international collaboration, particularly with Portugal and other European countries, JXUCM is pleased to offer a full tuition waiver to 10 students per class.
Students granted the tuition waiver are only responsible for €2,160 annually or €180 per month throughout the three-year program.
This initiative aims to support outstanding candidates by reducing the financial burden and encouraging participation in high-level clinical and academic training in Chinese Medicine.
The selection of the 10 students for full tuition waiver will be based on the analysis of their previous TCM tuition and professional and research experiences.
Note: The tuition waiver does not cover travel, insurance, or living in China expenses.
Promotion and Coordination
Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine:
- Handles admission, student visas, and graduation certification.
- Coordinates the mandatory phase in China and the practical sessions
ESMTC:
- Manages outreach, documentation, and coordination of four core courses.
- Co-supervises thesis research, writing and publication with JXUCM.
